An old, beat-up Subaru Impreza found in a barn in Australia just sold for $360,000 worth of Bitcoin after it was discovered to be a long-lost rally racing legend.
According to a report by CNBC, a Prodrive Subaru Impreza was found in a barn in the Australian state of Victoria. The car was originally thought to be worth between $15,000 – $20,000 before an iautomobile authenticator ICAARS discovered that the beat-up car was a legendary World Rally Championship vehicle.
The report claims the car was driven by championship racers Carlos Sainz and Colin McRae before being retired in 1996. The car, one of only 63 Subaru Imprezas ever commissioned by Prodrive, had been “collecting dust” in the Australian bar for over a decade.
The ICAARs inspector told Lloyds Auctions:
This is a truly rare and breathtaking barn find. You won’t see another quite like it.
Lloyds, which auctioned the blue rally car off on September 26, said the vehicle still had its original 2.0 liter turbocharged engine and six-speed manual gearbox.
Lee Hames, chief operations officer for Lloyds Auctions, said in a statement that the car’s new owners are motorsport “enthusiasts” who will honor the historic vehicle.
