An unfortunate cryptocurrency user lost more than $50,000 after making an erroneous transaction to an unsupported smart contract.
According to a post published on GitHub last week, user dawidkabani13 lost his entire life savings after mistakenly sending 4,000 LINK ($50k) to the Ghst Stacking smart contract. Unfortunately for Dawid, the smart contract belonging to decentralized finance (DeFi) game Aavegotchi did not support LINK, therefore resulting in the tokens being irreversibly lost.
Aavegotchi developer Pixelcraft Studios confirmed the erroneous transaction in a subsequent Medium update.
The post reads,
Dawid (@D13Kabani) a father of two and Aavegotchi enthusiast staking GHST, made the type of mistake that every crypto user fears the most. He rushed a simple copy pasta, mistakenly sending his entire LINK holdings (the great majority of his on-chain savings) to the GHST staking contract he’d previously interacted with instead of to the Binance deposit address he’d intended.
Pixelcraft noted that crypto does not include an “undo button” and said the sent LINK were irretrievably stuck in a non-upgradable GHST staking contract.
However, the developer group announced the launch of a SantaGotchi Wallet for community members to donate funds in support of Dawid, with the proceeds to be transferred on Christmas Day.
