Last Friday (September 11), Bitcoin Association of Hong Kong (BAHK), which has the aim of “fostering and promoting Bitcoin and its technology in Hong Kong” and which is is funded by donations from its 5000+ members, started an interesting educational campaign that will run until October 8.

The BAHK’s blog post said that this campaign was scheduled to run between September 11 and October 8:

  • Bitcoin advertising on the city’s double-decker trams from September 11 to October 8.
  • Bitcoin advertising on billboards from September 11 to October 1.

The following tweet from BAHK shows how the trams were plastered with ads for Bitcoin:

The following tweet from Genesis Block, which is a China-based OTC trading company for Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, shows how tram #110 looks at the moment:

The following tweet from Tyler Winklevoss, Co-Founder and CEO of Gemini Trust Company, LLC (the owner and operator of the Gemini digital asset exchange), shows one of the many billboards explaining why Bitcoin is better than gold:

Last Saturday (September 12), Scott Melker, a crypto trader at Texas West Capital, said that although he loved this campaign, he was not too thrilled about the “be your own bank” slogan since this might make owning Bitcoin sound like too much work, which prompted prominent Bitcoin analyst Willy Woo to reply to Melker to explain why in the context of Hong Kong this slogan made sense:

Perhaps the most funny and provocative location for one of the billboards featuring the “be your own bank” slogan was just outside HSBC Main Building, which is a headquarters building of The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC), as pointed out by OKEx CEO Jay Hao in the tweet shown below:
