Input Output Hong Kong (IOHK) founder and Cardano co-founder Charles Hoskinson has demanded YouTube take responsibility for the numerous fake channels promoting cryptocurrency scams.
In a tweet published on Wednesday, Hoskinson said he had noticed an increase in the number of YouTube channels that have been hacked for crypto giveaway scams. According to Hoskinson, who also co-founded Ethereum and leads the development team behind ADA, YouTube fans are blaming him for the scams.
Hoskinson said it’s time YouTube “wakes up,” to the pandemic of scam channels, while calling the lack of accountability “sad and unethical.”
In a subsequent tweet, the IOHK CEO pointed out the irony of YouTube deplatforming users for sharing controversial views while failing to take responsibility for scam channels.
Crypto scams, which frequently use the likeness of popular celebrities and well-known individuals to trick unsuspecting users, have become commonplace on social media.
In February, Tesla CEO and SpaceX founder Elon Musk tweeted that crypto scams had reached epidemic proportions on Twitter and encouraged users to report the fraudulent campaigns.
