Bitcoin has made another appearance on SHOWTIME’s hit series ‘Billions’ in a plot involving students mining cryptocurrency from their dormitory.
Ben Mezrich, the author of “The Accidental Billionaires”, which was adapted into the 2010 film “The Social Network”, hinted that yesterday’s episode (Season 5, episode 3) would feature Bitcoin.
Mezrich, who also published the book Bitcoin Billionaires last year, claimed to have written the most recent episode of Billions:
Billions this Sunday night… I’m not sayin’ there’s definitely gonna be some Bitcoin… I’m just saying I did happen to write the episode…I mean, just sayin’…

The episode centered on cut-throat hedge fund billionaire Bobby Axelrod’s son, Gordie, being expelled from his boarding school for operating a Bitcoin mining farm out of his dormitory.
In the episode, the unauthorized mining operation eventually led to the shutdown of the school’s power grid and Gordie’s expulsion by the principal.
While some crypto fans criticized Mezrich’s negative portrayal of Bitcoin, the American author cautioned that he was creating “baby steps” to mainstream adoption.
Baby steps. Embrace it all. Everything revolutionary begins as anti establishment.
