American technology and chip manufacturer Nvidia is calling on gamers and cryptocurrency miners to lend their computing power to combating the COVID-19 outbreak.
According to a report by MSN, Nvidia is encouraging PC users to contribute their spare computing resources to research related to coronavirus. Users can download the Folding@home application and participate in an international network of distributed processing power put towards solving research issues like COVID-19.
PC Gamers, let’s put those GPUs to work.

While Folding@home has been around for more than a decade, the project has recently turned its attention towards combating the COVID-19 outbreak.
A subsequent Reddit post detailed how cryptocurrency miners could contribute their GPU rigs to the effort.
User Fiach_Dubh said,
“I think if you have any spare computing power you should try this altruistic distributed computing experiment. Folding some proteins in virtual for the benefit of a COVID19 vaccine is very much in the spirit of early Bitcoin mining. And I feel it would make Satoshi proud to know that the little community he seeded grew into something that would be brave enough to take on the monsters of this world, in more ways than one.”
As previously reported, Tezos developer Johann Tanzer drew attention to the project two weeks ago by creating an XTZ prize pool for whichever community member contributed the most to Folding@home by the end of the month.
