The cannabis-based cryptocurrency – Potcoin – has seen its price and social media following spike after former NBA star-turned diplomat Dennis Rodman appeared last night on CNN wearing a Potcoin t-shirt.
Talking to the news channel from Singapore during the historic summit between President Trump and North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un, Rodman – one of the few people to have met both leaders – gave the cryptocurrency exposure to millions by wearing the shirt during the interview.
First released in 2014, Potcoin bills itself as an “ultra-secure digital cryptocurrency, network and banking solution for the $100 billion global legal marijuana industry,” with the goal of facilitating more efficient transactions for the industry.
With the one-of-a-kind crpytocurrency first spiking in price following Rodman’s arrival in Singapore yesterday wearing the t-shirt, the price spiked again after his appearance on TV last night.
What’s more – it seems Potcoin’s publicity stunt really paid off – with the coin’s twitter followers also soaring following the appearances, as the title graph from CryptoCompare shows.
With the green line indicating twitter followers, we can see a clear surge in numbers following the appearance, despite the ups and down of the price.
Trending strongly on Twitter, the appearance also drew some brilliant responses from the crypto-community, with many highlighting the bizarre nature of the crpytocurrency and its connection to the diplomatic proceedings – despite the fact that Rodman seems not to have been involved directly with the summit:
Little known fact about the Paris Peace Conference in 1919: David Lloyd George credited PotCoin with helping get him through the WWI talks dealing with Clemenceau and Wilson.
