On Monday (September 19), January Walker, who was United Utah Party candidate for Utah’s fourth congressional district in the 2022 U.S. midterm elections, commented on the U.S. SEC’s ongoing lawsuit against Ripple.
On 22 December 2020, the SEC announced that it had “filed an action against Ripple Labs Inc. and two of its executives, who are also significant security holders, alleging that they raised over $1.3 billion through an unregistered, ongoing digital asset securities offering.”
On 11 October 2022, at DC FinTech Week 2022, the Ripple CEO said — during a talk he gave titled “Enterprise Crypto and the Regulatory Perimeter” — that he expected the U.S. SEC’s ongoing lawsuit against his firm to come to a close in H1 2023.
On 2 December 2022, Ripple’s General Counsel announced that Ripple had “filed its Redacted Reply to the SEC’s Opposition to Ripple’s Motion for Summary Judgment.”
On 4 December 2022, entrepreneur David Gokhshtein, who is Founder and Chairman of crypto-focused media outlet Gokhshtein Media, predicted that Ripple would win this lawsuit:
Last Friday (9 December 2022), crypto analyst Miles Deutscher told his over 258K Twitter followers:
“I’m not a huge $XRP fan, but for the sake of our industry I really hope they win. If they don’t, there will likely be massive ramifications. Anyone hoping they lose is against crypto.“
On Walker’s campaign website, she has this to say about personal privacy and cybersecurity:
“As illustrated in the Bill of Rights, data privacy is a human right. You should have full control over your personal data & not be a product of big data. As we transition to a fully digital world. Solutions like Blockchain Identity Wallets will allow individuals, to control their information and vote securely with Blockchain Voting in elections.“
Well, earlier today, she sent out a tweet that suggested that she believes that Ripple has a great chance of winning and that she wants Ripple to go for an outright victory against the SEC rather than settle:
She went on to say:
“The world follows the actions of the USA, and how the government handles one of us, sets precedence for how they handle all of us. Instead of battling against each other claiming one group is better than another we need to work together for the right legislation… Number one thing that WEB3 needs is clarification on regulation. A settlement would set precedence that WEB3 doesn’t have the guts to stand against bad practices from our government. It also creates a template for the world to follow in handling new technologies.“
