On Saturday (5 November 2022), the Google Cloud team announced three pieces of good news for fans of high-speed layer one (L1) blockchain Solana ($SOL).
First, “Google Cloud is running a block-producing Solana validator to participate in and validate the network.”
Second, “Google Cloud is working with Solana to bring Blockchain Node Engine to the Solana chain next year, so it will be easy for anyone to launch a dedicated Solana node in the cloud.”
Third, “Google Cloud is indexing @solana data and bringing it to BigQuery next year to make it easier for the Solana developer ecosystem to access historical data.”
This announcement seems to have helped the $SOL price to surge to $37.45, up 14.07% in the past 24-hour period, according to data from CryptoCompare.
On 27 October 2022, the Google Cloud team introduced Blockchain Node Engine, which is “a fully managed node-hosting service that can minimize the need for node operations.” They went on to say that “Web3 companies who require dedicated nodes can relay transactions, deploy smart contracts, and read or write blockchain data with the reliability, performance, and security they expect from Google Cloud compute and network infrastructure.”
They also mentioned that “Ethereum would be the first blockchain supported by Blockchain Node Engine, enabling developers to provision fully managed Ethereum nodes with secure blockchain access.”
And on 11 October 2022, Google Cloud and Coinbase announced “a new, long-term strategic partnership to better serve the growing Web3 ecosystem and its developers.”
The press release went on to say that this collaboration would “involve Coinbase selecting Google Cloud as a strategic cloud provider to build advanced exchange and data services,” and that Coinbase would “use Google Cloud’s powerful compute platform to process blockchain data at scale, and enhance the global reach of its crypto services by leveraging Google’s premium fiber-optic network.”
The press release added that Coinbase would also “build its global data platform on Google Cloud’s secure infrastructure and leverage their leading data and analytics technologies to provide Coinbase customers with machine learning-driven crypto insights.”
