Shortly after Ethereum’s Merge upgrade was completed in the early hours of September 15, i.e. the Ethereum network switched from proof-of-work (PoW) to proof-of-consensus (PoS), several influential Bitcoin maximalists (or “maxis” for short) expressed their reaction to this event.
Ethereum creator Vitalik Buterin called this successful upgrade “a big moment for the Ethereum ecosystem, and naturally appeared delighted like the rest of the Ethereum community:
However, several well-known Bitcoin maxis, who generally believe that — with the exception of fiat-backed stablecoins such as Tether ($USDT) — Bitcoin is the only legitimate cryptocurrency, were quick to express that they were not impressed by Ethereum’s move to PoS consensus.
