Lightning network node operators have been urged to upgrade their LND versions immediately following the discovery of a critical vulnerability.

According to an update issued on Friday, lightning node users running LND versions older than the October 1 version 0.11 upgrade should upgrade their system immediately to avoid being susceptible to a vulnerability.

Lightning engineer Conner Fromknecht, head of cryptographic engineering at Lightning Labs, explained the urgency of the situation.

He said,

While we have no reason to believe these vulnerabilities have been exploited in the wild, we strongly urge the community to upgrade to lnd 0.11.0 or above ASAP.

Fromknecht gave few details on the nature of the vulnerability but said it would be fully explained to the community on October 20.

The update reads,

The circumstances surrounding the discovery resulted in a compressed disclosure timeline compared to our usual timeframes. We will be publishing more details about this in the coming weeks along with a comprehensive bug bounty program.
